Courir de Mardi Gras
Join us at Vermilionville on Sunday, February 4th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, as we bring a traditional, country Mardi Gras run to the city during our
annual Courir de Mardi Gras in conjunction with the Basile Mardi Gras Association. Bring a bag of Mardi Gras beads to donate and receive $1 off
the cost of admission. Admission for the Courir de Mardi Gras is $5 (members pay $4). There is no charge for children under 3.
“This is our heritage, culture and tradition. This is us. This is how we’ve always done it – go out and beg, sing, dance and hopefully get everything
we need for a gumbo,” explains Russell “Potic” Rider, President of the Basile Mardi Gras Association.
The run is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. with an overview of the Mardi Gras tradition. From there, guests will stop at six of the homes located inside Vermilionville’s historic village where they will watch the Basile Mardi Gras Association beg for all the ingredients for the community gumbo and perform some traditions along the way. Following the Association's performance, children will be invited to chase a chicken and the one who catches it will get a special prize.
The run will go until approximately 12:30 p.m. ending at the Performance Center where attendees will be able to purchase gumbo and dance to live music by The Pine Leaf Boys beginning at 1 p.m. For more information, please email Brady McKellar at Vville@BayouVermilionDistrict.org or call 337.233.4077 x.211.
